B&B Tech: Full Monte Kenwood Hybrids

"FULL MONTY" TREATMENT FOR THE KENWOOD TS-520/530/820/830 SERIES

I know the Yaesu crowd will disagree, but possibly the best hybrid (tube/solid state) rigs ever made (based on popularity and repairability) would be the Kenwood TS-520/820/530/830 lines. If you have one that is in reasonable cosmetic shape (in other words, you would be proud to display it, not try to hide it under the logbook when non-hams come by), and has not been physically abused or excessively "heat stressed", it would most definitely enjoy a "full Monte" service from B&B. Here's what we do:

	Clean and realign the VFO (if needed; requires removal)
	Replace audio output capacitor (all) , resolder Q22, Q26 (TS-530, -830)
	Resolder the driver tube socket (all except TS-520; hardwired)
	Resolder final tube socket pins (TS-530, 830 only)
	Cut J2 for WARC band TX if needed (TS-530, -830 only)
	Replace meter and VFO lamp(s) if needed
	Lube VFO and tuning shafts
	Adj 9v regulator (TS-820)
	Align RF and IF stages
	Check tubes (see our method here)
	Set PA bias per factory spec
	Resolder PLL and AVR unit as needed
	Clean and lube fan; install bypass cap (TVI prevention)
	Any other minor repairs needed
	TS-820 add'l work: R&R (remove and replace) VCO/PLL and counter units, clean all inter-board connectors, align PLL unit

All this for a Flat Rate of only $189 (TS-520/530/830) OR $209 (TS-820). Remember, the 820 is slightly higher due to more required labor. And, major parts (tubes, mainly) and shipping are extra.
