| | "FULL MONTY" TREATMENT FOR THE DRAKE 2B
RECEIVER
The Drake 2B was a great entry-level ham receiver in the 60's,
and it still is today! It offers tube receiver "feel" and
"warmth" but with modern rig-sounding AGC, a choice of diode (AM) or
product (CW, SSB) detectors, and great selectivity. In addition it is a very
stable rig.
We are pleased to be able to offer the Full Monty deal on any
Drake 2B that is in GOOD COSMETIC SHAPE and is not a "basket case".
Here's what we do (be sure to read carefully, please):
 | Replace the can electrolytic with a new, multisection
filter cap (not NOS, but NEW!) and bleeder/divider resistors (color will not
match the original, but size will). |
 | Replace V10, 6X4 rectifier tube (note 1) if needed. |
 |
Replace V9, 6AQ5 audio tube (note 1) if needed. |
 |
Replace other tubes (note 1) if needed. |
 | Replace C78, audio output cathode bypass capacitor. |
 | Replace other tubes and components as needed (note 1) |
 | R&R (remove and replace) all tubes and clean tube pins
and sockets with Cailube D5. |
 | Clean all controls and switches with Cailube D5. |
 | Lubricate tuning hardware. |
 | Replace spindle drive cord. Dial drive cord replaced if
needed (usually, not). |
 | Align RF and IF stages as needed. |
 | Add 10-1 crystal to provide 28.0-28.6Mhz coverage (note
2). |
 | Install 3 wire AC safety ground cord (note 3) |
 |
on-air receive check, all bands |
All this for a Flat Rate of only $199 (see notes)
IMPORTANT NOTE: FOLLOW OUR SHIPPING ADVICE! It's not
recommended to use the orginal boxes to ship your radios. The original box could
be destroyed, and the rig can be damaged if the foam is a little loose and the rig slides
around inside the box. See the SHIPPING PAGE
for packing instructions. Use of the original box(es) for shipping is not
recommended.
NOTES ON THE 2-B FULL MONTY:
Note 1. All tubes and other components are extra, in addition to
the Full Monty labor charge. We charge cost of components plus a small markup to
cover shipping expenses.
Note 2. Stock 10M coverage is 28.5-29.1 Mhz; to receive 28.0 to 28.5 Mhz,
a new crystal must be installed. If desired, we can add this band for only
$29.95. This covers the new crystal and alignment/checkout. Please note,
crystal prices are quite volatile; this price is subject to change. The cyrstals
are manufactured in the USA and are not cheap!
Note 3. We highly recommend the installation of new 3 wire AC safety
power cord for all vintage tube receivers. Addional charge of $24.95 will apply to the Full Monty labor
charge. This will cover the cost of a new, 6' three-wire AC power cord and a new
grommet, plus the additional labor to enlarge the power cord chassis entry hole
to accomodate the new grommet. See our discussion of this subject here.
